Security Services Manager

The Role: 
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Security, the Security Manager provides oversight and
supervision to security personnel and supervisors, and is responsible for implementing, maintaining and updating security policies, programs and procedures designed to protect the physical assets of Philips Arena and the Atlanta Hawks, and to provide a safe and secure environment for all Philips Arena guests, tenants, employees, vendors and contractors.

Responsibilites:
  • Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise full and part time employees in the Security Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws – train, counsel, discipline, evaluate and supervise Security personnel in accordance with Philips Arena Security Department’s philosophy and policies
  • Enforce and uphold integrity of Philips Arena property and facilities during events and on a continuous 24 hour basis
  • Proactive enforcement of Philips Arena policies and procedures, and ensure timely response and follow up to violations and complaints from guests, clients and employees according to established policies and procedures
  • Develop, implement and further define standard operating procedures of security operations ensuring compliance as defined and outlined by all Security personnel
  • Maintain and make revisions to Emergency Operation Plan and Evacuation Plan. Conduct monthly discussions to keep procedures fresh
  • Operate and monitor security systems
  • Conduct investigation of accidents and criminal acts of personnel or property in Philips Arena. Review and evaluate reports prepared by security staff regarding investigations of theft, accidents and safety violations
  • Communicate and participate in security measures for high-profile government officials; working hand in hand with FBI, CIA and maintain a positive relationship with all Metro enforcement agencies as well as the APD
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure delivery of quality services and resolve operational problems, to include having the building ready and opened at a designated time
  • Represent and participate in appropriate committee activities in addition to attending weekly meetings.  Coordinate and assist the facility’s Security Director with all Security needs directly relating to Philips Arena and the Atlanta Hawks
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all emergency policies, procedures and regulations defined by Philips Arena and the Atlanta Hawks
  • Oversee the Arena’s Security Control Center and it’s operations along with the Security Operations Command Center
  • Perform other duties, functions, special projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Security Operations
  • Confers with representatives of management to formulate policies, determine need for programs, and coordinate programs with Philips Arena Activities
  • Recruit, interview, select, and train security personnel according to established guidelines
  • Conduct departmental meetings with security personnel
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local municipalities and neighboring businesses


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be given consideration
  • Four years of event or related professional experience preferably in a public venue or sports and entertainment establishment
  • Knowledge of human behavior, including crowd management principles, and the ability to implement effective crowd control techniques as necessary
  • Law enforcement or investigatory background is preferred
  • Ability to provide training and directions to new hires in the department
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and employment check prior to employment
  • Must have a flexible schedule, with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary and have the ability to stand, sit, crouch, and bend throughout the course of daily activities
