Job Description:
The National Mission Brigade (NMB) G3 (Operations) shall implement and operate programs, practices, and procedures for developing optimal utilization of combat power, combat support, and combat service support personnel. Assist NMB with administering programs to train personnel on planning and tactical operations, G3 Section organizational management, conduct planning and operations training. When necessary, coordinate class arrangements, conduct training classes, develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities, and develop train-the-trainer (TTT) classes for the NMB Staff. Develop programs and practices to identify developmental needs including preparing personnel for more responsible positions and increasing effectiveness in present assignments. If required, may use technical experts to assist in training.

Candidate will serve as a Team Leader. Team Leads provide support, leadership and oversight for the NMB program. The Team Lead shall report to the Afghan Special Security Force – Training Program (ASSF-TP) Deputy Program Manager (DPM) at Camp Scorpion and may interface with COR, TOR, CSTC-A and SOTF-A in Afghanistan, and participate in meetings and conferences as directed by the DPM.

The Team Lead shall ensure all elements of program coordination and management elements are met, including but not limited to:

Monitor required team/individual training and actively assist in providing guidance and direction to team mentors.
Create, maintain, and provide the ASSF-TP DPM all required periodic reports.
Provide the ASSF-TP DPM all required data/information for personnel performance reviews and administrative team member actions.
Hold team members accountable for actions and performance.
Required Hours:
Standard will be 6 days/week for up to 10 hrs/day while OCONUS and 40 hrs/week while CONUS

Responsibilities:
Train the NMB G3 Officer to plan, coordinate, prepare for, and execute related tactical and operational tasks, synchronize functions among them to include the planning and orders process and continually assess the situation or execution of operations
Provide training to the Afghan counterpart Operations Officer IAW Decree 1-3.6 and respective US military doctrine
Provide training in the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP)
Train the G3 NMB Operations Section on integration, synchronization, and coordination of special operations with conventional forces in support of military operations, to include incorporating enabler support
Implement and administer a TTT program; monitor NMB trainer progress
Regularly interact with US military personnel, the NMB Special Operations Advisor Team (SOAT), and other advisor-mentor teams as required
Maintain positive relations with Afghan counterparts, with US and coalition military counterparts, and advisor-mentors
May be responsible for making decisions to training focus to improve integration into US military planning efforts
Be prepared to conduct expeditionary Train, Advise, Assist, and Mentor (TAAM) in support of the NMB and the NMB SOAT, as part of an Expeditionary Advisor Package (EAP)

Required Qualifications:
Candidate must have at least 20 years military experience with the US Army or Marine Corps with experience as a staff officer at the Special Forces Group level or higher (or equivalent)
An occupational specialty equal to US Army Military 01A (Combat Arms Officer) or service equivalent
Must have a minimum experience of 12 months working in Afghanistan, in any military capacity
Shall have deployed operational experience in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) working at a Task Force or equivalent level in a supervisory role
Must be competent with operating personal computer (PC) skills & MS Office
Must possess excellent oral and written communications
Must possess excellent leadership, organizational and project management skills
Must possess current DoD Secret Security Clearance
Must possess a US Passport with at least 6 months remaining eligibility
Must be able to obtain an Afghanistan Visa

Physical & Mental Requirements:
This is an ARMED position. Must obtain and maintain eligibility to possess & operate a firearm in Afghanistan (AFG). As a business necessity, must successfully complete/maintain arming requirements including but not limited to: Psychological evaluation (initial evaluation & annual reevaluations); Completion of Civilian Arming Authorization Mgmt System (CAAMS) requirements/documentation & Arming Authorization Letter from US Forces AFG; Afghan weapons permit from the Afghan Ministry of the Interior
Wear required personal protective gear: body armor, helmet, etc. Independently lift/carry duffle bags with a max weight of 70 lbs/piece & move across uneven terrain
Work & live in AFG with potential assignment to any location in AFG based upon needs of the U.S. Gov’t
Meet medical requirements for position as determined by a pre-employment medical screening & published CRC and USCENTCOM medical deployment standards
Walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to 8 hours/day & sit for up to 3 hours/day; climb/descend stairs; grasp or handle objects; use finger dexterity; bend elbows/knees; reach above/below shoulders; read/interpret typewritten print; communicate by voice & detect sound by ear
Work, live & respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances in a potentially hostile environment - at remote locations, under austere conditions - with extreme aircraft noise, hostile fire, other acts of aggression and/or extreme weather conditions

Desired Qualifications:
Prefer Special Operations background, or operational experience with Special Operations forces
Prefer former Group/Brigade S3
Prefer candidate to have 10 years of experience at the U.S. Army or Marine Corps Battalion and Brigade or Regimental level
Prefer Army Command and General Staff College Graduate or Service Equivalent
At least 1 year of experience in Operational Planning at the Special Forces Group, Brigade or Regiment, or higher
Special Operations combat experience preferably in Afghanistan

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree from accredited school & six (6) years of related experience, OR four (4) years related experience with Master's degree. Eight (8) years of additional equivalent work experience (14 total years) may be accepted in lieu of BA/BS education requirement.
